The 2011 World Cheese Awards were a massive success once again with the show organisers The Guild of Fine Foods claiming a record number of entrants standing at more than 2,600 cheeses from across the globe and very high standards once again.
It was always going to be difficult to beat last years achievements when our Paški Sir won top of class in all 3 categories entered with 3 Super Golds and the Best New Cheese Trophy, but after this years event we’re equally pleased with the progress made by one of our other cheeses.
We entered our Žigljen cheese which is a hard pressed delicate infusion of cow, sheep and goat milk which we’ve been developing for more than 15 years, into the mixed milk category which contained more than 100 competitors. So it was with great delight when we found out our Žigljen had won best of class with a Super Gold Medal making it the best mixed milk cheese in the world.
Our signature cheese Paški Sir made exclusively from the milk of the island’s autochthonous breed of sheep, was entered into the small producers category where it was up against some very stiff competition. We we’re delighted to be awarded a Gold Medal and together with the Bronze medal won in the sheep cheese category, added to our haul from last year and the 3 Star Superior Taste Awards from the International Taste and Quality Institute in Brussels, we can safely say our Paški Sir is well established amongst the best cheeses of the world. Our Paški Sir has limited availability in the US, please contact us for details. In the UK, Paški Sir, Žigljen and Kozlar are all available in several high class cheese stores and made available for wholesale with specialist Croatian gourmet food importers www.dissa.co.uk of London.
